I work at MLSE LaunchPad, the best place in the entire world! Please help me raise money for it.

Friends and Family: I am participating in an all-day sport fundraising event for MLSE LaunchPad and I would love your support. I realize that we are asked all the time for donations to various worthy causes, but I can tell you that I see every single day the impact that a donation to MLSE LaunchPad would have, and I would be so grateful for your help.

MLSE Launchpad is a youth sport for development facility located in downtown Toronto. It is challenging, frustrating, difficult, and, hands down the most important work that I have ever done.

Day in and day out I work with full time and part time staff to deliver FREE sport programming for youth ages 6-29. We work with community partners, youth organizations, employment agencies and schools to use sport as a tool to help youth recognize and reach their potential. What we do is intentional - it is not just because you play sports that you will be a good team player or you will learn empathy - it has to be fostered. The youth that we work with come from some of Toronto's "toughest" neighbourhoods (Regent Park, St. Jamestown, Moss Park) and I take real pride in knowing that our space is an important and valued part of the community. In particular, I am extremely proud of the work that we do around getting girls physically active, and increasing their leadership and self-esteem through sport.

I have included stories and parent testimonials below, but the gist of it is that through sport, nutrition, education, and intentional life skills education, we are changing lives (and I am being changed in the process). Have a wonderful day!

Parent: "I LOVE IT ...  I don't know what this community would be without you here ... Since you guys have been here you have changed the minds of the youth ...Thanks for everything ... You go above and beyond."

Teacher: "Just wanted to let you know what an amazing time the kids and Ms. Maguire had yesterday. She said it was literally the best trip she's been on in the past 7 years since being at our school. Just wanted to pass that on to you and your staff.”

Story: We run a program called Peacebuilders. Youth are enrolled in Peacebuilders through the court system as an alternative to jail time. They have to complete a 12 week program to have their charges dropped. At MLSE LaunchPad, we add an on-court physical activity component to the Peacebuilders program. In one of the first cohorts of the program, a youth came through and didn't talk to anyone. The only time that they participated was in basketball and any time they spoke it was always in swearwords. The youth needed a job and got the information to apply to our summertime Leader in Training program for youth ages 15-18. The youth completed the program and, at the conclusion, was hired on as one of our part time staff. The youth now smiles, works hard, attends work on-time and in uniform and serves as a positive role model to younger youth from their community.
